Community Hall

The Christian alternative to the secular community college or JuCo — dual credit, associate degrees, and place-rooted formation

Community Hall is CHI's low-cost two-year option. It does what the secular community college and JuCo do — affordable credit, accessible enrollment, transfer pathways — and adds what they cannot: a formation community rooted in a specific place and faith.

Is this a fit?

You should consider a Community Hall if…

  • You want a Christian alternative to the secular community college or JuCo — dual credit and associate degrees with formation built in.
  • You have students whose first step into higher ed shouldn't be a leap into anonymity at a state campus.
  • You want a low-cost two-year option that meets students where they are without giving up on real formation.

Why It Matters

More Americans attend community college than any other form of higher education. It is the most democratic institution in the system — open to anyone, affordable by design, close to home. And yet it has never been taken seriously as a site of formation. Community colleges provide credentials. They do not, as a rule, form people. The student who walks through the door receives instruction in a subject and a piece of paper certifying his competence. What he becomes — who he becomes — is not part of the program.

The Community Hall changes that. It uses the community college model as a frame: accessible credit hours, associate degrees, dual enrollment for high school students, certificates that lead directly to employment. But it adds what the public community college has never offered — a formation community. A cohort of students who share a common intellectual life. Tutors who know their students by name. A sense that education is not merely preparation for a career but formation for a life of contribution to a specific place.

This Hall type is also the most natural entry point for classical homeschool families and classical school students seeking dual credit that is consistent with the formation they have already received. Rather than sending their students into a secular community college for credits, these families can enroll them in a Hall that treats the dual credit year as a continuation of their education, not a departure from it. The Community Hall is, in many cases, the first Hall a new community will build — and a solid foundation for the Halls that follow.
